Collaborate's Sustainable Development Goals

During our second annual hui, the Collaborate team got together to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals and how we can ensure these are embedded into our ongoing strategy.

What are the Sustainable development goals?

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 global goals that have been established to help us all created a better world by 2030. The goals help us identify areas that as a global collective, we need to improve such as reducing poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. The goals provide us a guide in how we can do better. If we follow them, we all have the power to create a better world by 2030.

Sustainable Development Goals & Collaborate

To assist us with our discussion we used kits provided by Bead and Proceed. Bead and Proceed are a social enterprise that exists to educate and inspire people to action the SDGs.

The Bead and Proceed kits are designed to encourage people come together and paint a 5 beaded necklace, keyring, or bracelet that represents the 5 SDGs most important to them and that they want to work on. While painting your beads, you find ideas and conversations flow about global issues and what values you hold dear.

It was the perfect way to get to know each other on a more personal level and also helped us to understand how we will bring the SDGs into more of what we are doing at Collaborate.

After each painting and making our own personal necklaces, we worked out what our collective top 3 SDGs are.

As a collective we chose these top three because our mission is all about making communities healthier (socially, environmentally, physically and economically) through facilitating meaningful partnerships, whether it be between volunteers and a non profit organisation or between corporates and the community.
